I have been an art teacher for seventeen years.

I fell in love with the power of images and story-telling the first time I picked up a comic book at age eight.

I fell in love with painting when I discovered the brushwork and bravura of John Singer Sargent at eighteen.

I mostly try to do those loves justice with my own attempts to make sense of this world and my place within it. Sometimes focusing on color. Other times focusing on narrative. Always with a mind towards the surface of the piece and the textures and qualities of the media used. The importance of brushwork can never be ignored.

If you want to categorize my work, it would probably fit within the realms of Neo Expressionism or Neo Impressionism or even New Surrealism, but that feels a little pretentious. Imaginative Realism and Magical Realism start to feel right, with a bend towards the darker and weirder side.

Iā€™m just trying to make the things that I want to see.
